E-Commerce Software: Catalog, Orders and ERP Integration

E-commerce software is not a product showcase. Product, stock, price, order, return, shipping and accounting must meet in a single source of truth. In direct-selling models, consultant/member structure, points and team management are added on top. A good system keeps what the customer sees and what operations actually run on the same reality.

Which problems does e-commerce software solve?

  • Stock and price mismatch: web, mobile and marketplaces showing different prices and availability.
  • Broken order flow: orders carried by hand into ERP, shipping and accounting.
  • Returns: return requests that cannot be tracked or reflected in stock and accounting.
  • Member/consultant structure: special pricing, points, teams and commissions run on spreadsheets.
  • Performance: catalog and checkout slowing down on campaign days.

What should good e-commerce software include?

  1. One catalog: product, variant, stock and price managed in one place; every channel reads the same data.
  2. ERP integration: orders, dispatch notes and stock movements synchronised with enterprise systems such as SAP.
  3. Member and consultant management: role-based pricing, points, team and commission rules defined inside the system.
  4. Return and exchange flow: request, approval, stock return and accounting entry traced end to end.
  5. Web and mobile parity: web and mobile clients consuming the same API deliver a consistent experience.
  6. Measurement: conversion, abandoned cart, return rate and channel-level sales reported.

What to watch in 2026

  1. Integration cost: ERP and shipping integrations are the riskiest part; scope them up front.
  2. Data ownership: product and customer data must not be locked into one platform; export and backup should be designed in.
  3. Privacy and payment security: personal data, payment flow and logging rules belong in the foundation.
  4. Campaign load: high-traffic and campaign scenarios must be tested like normal days.
  5. Consultant model: commission and point rules change; keep the calculation engine separate from the rules.

How are cost and timeline determined?

Product count, variant structure, ERP scope, membership/consultant model and payment-shipping integrations set the scope. Catalog, cart and order flow ship first; ERP synchronisation, consultant management and reporting come in a second phase.

Frequently asked questions

Ready-made platform or custom software?

For a standard catalog and order flow, a ready platform is fast and economical. ERP integration, a consultant/member model, special pricing and commission rules, or a multi-channel setup quickly hit its limits. Clarify where custom development is actually required first.

How does SAP integration work?

Product, stock, price and order data are synchronised through SAP ABAP API endpoints. The integration layer keeps web and mobile channels on the same rules, with error handling and retries designed up front.

Can my existing site be migrated?

Product, customer and order data can be migrated; URL mapping and 301 redirects are planned for SEO. A staged cutover is preferred so sales do not stop during the move.

Do I need a mobile app as well?

If loyalty and repeat purchase matter, a mobile app is a strong channel. Consuming the same API as the web keeps catalog and order experience consistent.
